Maternity photography is a beautiful time to capture. Your beautiful bump grows quickly and it is nice to compare from week to week. Some maternity photography sessions are individual which are done between 30-36 weeks and some can be a maternity photography timeline.

I love newborn photography! I love being able to provide permanent memories of your gorgeous little baby when they are a newborn. It is just so precious to be able to capture a newborn for my clients so that they can look back on it in 20 years from now. Newborns grow so quickly that it is so hard to remember exactly how big they were.
Congratulations on your news. Your baby will be here before you know it. Not only is it important to capture newborn photos but it is also important to capture your baby bump with maternity photos. It will depend entirely on your photographer however you should book as early as possible especially for weekends as they are generally the busiest.

A collection of some of my favourite images from 2017.
Even though pregnancy comes with a lot of difficult trials, it is an amazing time in your life and it is beautiful to capture pregnancy photos for you to look back on in the future. It is a time of celebration and anticipation as you prepare to meet your little bundle of joy. During this time, you create your initial bond with your child that will continue throughout your entire lives.
So you’re thinking of have a maternity photography session? Firstly congratulations on this special time. It’s beautiful to capture either your growing bump or the end stage. There are lots of choices when it comes to maternity photography packages. Many people still want digital maternity photos but the trend these days is to opt in for a product that has been professionally produced by their maternity photographer. Generally my clients either don’t have time or never get around to printing their images. Or if they do print their maternity photos they are not from professional photography labs. I have written the importance of printing at a professional photography lab here. The easiest and most popular option is to purchase a product such as a canvas or album so that you have a complete professional maternity photography package that is high quality. Some maternity photographers have packages already set and/or a-la-carte options to choose from. The average spend of maternity photography is between $800-$2000 on products like an album to show a maternity timeline of mum’s to be over the course of their pregnancy or to show a variety of maternity images taken on one day in one maternity photography session. In summary, physical products are always best to purchase because it cuts down your workload and you know you are going to get top quality maternity photography products when purchased through your maternity photographer. Remember that memories fade….but photographs last a lifetime!
A maternity photography session is designed to be relaxed and comfortable. Maternity photos provide gorgeous memories for generations to come, documenting and reminding you how beautiful you looked while your baby was growing. If your photographer is anything like me then they will have a range of maternity drapes, signs and ribbons to show off your belly in your maternity photos. However you may feel a little more comfortable in your own clothes.
I was sitting at my desk thinking about what to write for my next blog post. It hit me that perhaps you might like to know a bit about me so I’ve created a bit of a personal project. I’m going to show you my own personal pregnancy timeline. I did this every 4 weeks starting at 16 weeks with the help of my husband and son. I firstly chose a max dress because this type of clothing is firstly super comfortable when you are pregnant and secondly it knew it was going to stretch with my belly as it grew. It’s great to wear the same clothes in all of your pregnancy timeline sessions as it really enhances your gorgeous pregnant belly. My husband was behind the camera and took these photos for me. I left it on a tripod so he literally just had to press the shutter to take the photo.
Outdoor locations are perfect to create a change in your photo’s backgrounds. Using an outdoor location means you can have a huge variety in background just by moving one metre. To change backgrounds in the studio takes a lot more time and effort. The best part about using an outdoor location is having a wider range of different looking photos based on different backgrounds. Outdoor locations can be used for family photography, maternity photography, newborn photography or wedding photography……any type of photography (provided the weather is fine!)
Cameron – Newborn pictures, family photos and maternity photos from a Melbourne newborn photographer
I was lucky enough to take maternity photos before little Cameron was born including family photos When Cameron came in we spent the first 10 minutes taking family photos and then the rest of the time on newborn pictures. This poor little man had a rough start to life with a little operation. He spent the first week or so in hospital but is in perfect health now. He was so easy to work with for his newborn pictures as we changed his clothing, wraps and props. Meagan Goodes, Melbourne newborn photographer
