What Is The Rule of Thirds?
Have you heard of the professional photographer term, rule of thirds? If you are an aspiring professional photographer then you will want to know exactly what this is because it could mean the difference between bland and boring photos and something pretty amazing.
The rule of thirds basically states that the human eye is drawn to specific parts of the photo. If you look at the image below you will see that the image is divided into three columns and 3 rows. The intersecting points of each of these are called the golden points. Each golden point is where the human eye is drawn. To create an interesting and possibly professional photo your subject should be placed on one of these points.
In the example above you can see that the ring on the baby’s toe is placed on a golden point. Or the flower centre is placed on a golden point.
In short to create a more professional photo place your subject on the golden point to create interest in your photo and for the viewer’s eye to be drawn instantly to the subject.
